Do you want to love your body?
Do you want to feel good about your body?
Do you want to walk tall and be proud of your body?
If your answer is “Yes,” read the next sentence slowly. The key to loving your body is to have a positive and healthy body image. The way to loving your body is to feel good about your body.
The diet industry would like you to believe that the solution to our body woes is to change our body so we would feel better about ourselves. When the truth is, how we feel about our body affects us greatly.
It does?
Yes it does.
Meet Thin Michelle. You don’t have to look far, I’m talking about me! Let me share to you my weight story. When I was a kid, warning bells would ring in my brain whenever it was eating time. “Uh-oh, here we go again.” Same scenario would replay over and over. Mom would force me to eat and I’d end up chewing rice and what have you for a long time until Mom would just throw her hands in the air with frustration. I was a terrible eater. I think I gave Mom a headache over this one.
The price though was a slim figure and a tiny waist that models would die for. Unfortunately, Mom didn’t like me thin. She wanted more meat on my body lest people would accuse her of depriving me of food. So for years on end, I would be the recipient of these words, “You are so thin! You need to become fatter. Eat! Eat! Please eat!”
The more I tried hard to become fatter, the thinner I became. I was obsessed with being fat. I wanted to be fat. I yearned to be fat. I desperately wanted to be fat but it seemed hopeless. I didn’t gain any weight at all.
I can’t recall exactly when it happened but one day I just found myself looking in the mirror at my body and felt ugly. I was miserable and thin and ashamed. I walked with hunched and stooped shoulders. I didn’t like it when people would look at me. It upset me.
In my mid-twenties, I was made to take some food supplement that was advertised to strengthen the immune system. The result was staggering. I gained weight in less than a month. It was wonderful and I blossomed amidst the praises of how good I look with the weight I have gained.
Never in my wildest dreams would I imagine that one day I would be labeled as fat. But fat I became. Hahahaha And so the story goes on… I’m sure you know how it goes. “Don’t eat too much. You are getting fat! ”
Oh boy, by that time I was thankful that I had grown to accept the body that I had and that experience taught me to stop listening to what people are saying and focus instead on what I felt about my body. I discovered that accepting my body meant having a positive image and I felt truly so much better.
Surround yourself with positive people
Positive people will not spend days after days lamenting whether they have gained weight or not. They avoid TV shows and beauty magazines that show what a beautiful woman or handsome man MUST look like. What kind of figure they must have, the perfect hairdo or make up. You don’t have to look like a celebrity in order to feel good about you and your body. You see no matter how much weight you lose or gain, if you don’t feel good about yourself, you will always end up finding something wrong with yourself.
Positive people talk about stuff that matters and those that uplift the spirits. You could have a wonderful discussion about life and love rather than worry about your love handles. Positive people engage in meaningful activities that help and make a difference. Their enthusiasm for life contagiously makes you feel good about you.
Affirm your Body with Love Words
Your body needs your appreciation too. Take the time to nourish it with love words. Say thank you for your eyes that makes you see, your legs that makes you walk, your mouth so you could speak. Tell those bulging thighs how you appreciate them as you caress it lovingly. Do you know? When you stop “hating” some part of your body, they will actually respond to you in a better way and cooperate more. So change your “I hate” statements to “I love” or “I thank you” or “I value” and how you view your body will change dramatically.
Take Care of Your Body
If you want to feel good about your body, then learn to take care of it! Your body is your lifetime partner. You can never leave home without it. You need your body to fulfill your work and mission in life. Therefore, you must take care of it. Feed it with healthy food. Strengthen your body with daily exercise. Do regular stretches to be more flexible. Drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration. Sleep and rest as needed. If you take care of your body, it will take care of you too by not giving you many problems.
My dearest friend, stop hating your body and start loving it. Build a positive image and learn to value what you have. Remember your body is your partner in achieving a life of love and abundance.
Love your body! Just simply love it and you will feel great!
