Health & Wellness: Try Mindful Breathing for Stress Relief

stress-relief-health-wellness-abundanceOne of the the things in taking care of our health and wellness that we usually take for granted is our ability to breathe (mindful breathing)-taking in a wonderful amount of oxygen to our body and releasing the carbon dioxide which is the waste product of metabolism.   This process called breathing provides the much needed function for the metabolic processes that occur in our bodies.  This is where we derive the energy to move about, feel, and think.

A person experiencing stress can have physical tension which leads to tightness in the chest and even chest pain!  Mindful breathing or relaxed breathing techniques will release tension in your upper body, including your neck, upper back and shoulders.   The breath is a powerful link or connection between the mind and the body.  So if a person is able to control or regulate one’s breathing patterns, you can actually influence  your physical, mental and emotional states.

Amazing?  Yes, that is how important the breath is.

Mindful Breathing Techniques:

On a hot summer day, remember how drinking a cool glass of juice or water can quench your thirst?  You close your eyes and take a small sip, savoring the water on your lips and inside your mouth..ahhh, it trickles down your throat, the coolness assuaging your parched throat.

Translate that to breathing itself.  Sit quietly in a cool place or wherever you are, inhale slowly.  Drink in your breath like that of the cool drink.  Feel it go through your nostrils.  Follow your breath from the nostrils to your throat and past your lungs.  Now don’t just stop there, let the air continue to flow down, all the way down to your body to the tip of your toes.  Repeat several times.

The mindful breathing technique allows you to savor the beauty of your breathe giving your body life and energy.  And as you exhale, release every tension out of your body.  Feel the rush of negative energy leave you.

The more you know how to use your diaphragm fully, breathing using a slow and smooth pattern, the more you are practicing good breathing habits.  And this is a great way to relieve stress instantaneous.   Try it.
