Attending a funeral often makes me reflect as people come to visit the grieving family. It’s a difficult and challenging time. Grief of the loss of a loved one weighs heavily on the soul. The corridor of the mind is empty and numb.
No longer will you hear your husband’s laughter. No longer will your smell your wife’s sweet smelling hair after a shower. No longer will you get to hug your child and kiss him goodnight. No longer will you worry when your son comes home late; or be able to comfort your daughter when she is crying because she had a fight in school. No more…
Is it really just like that? Gone in an instant? No more?
One of the best parts of the funeral service that I love is the eulogy. This is the best part because we come together to remember and celebrate life– the life that was lived by the person whom we love. The memories come hurtling back and the corridors are filled again.
This Funeral video, a new TV commercial launched by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) reminded me of how wonderful eulogies can be in a funeral service. During the time of loss, the heart is comforted as you take a step back and remember all that is good and beautiful and wonderful. This woman spoke of her husband as she accepts his imperfection, loving him for who he is. It will bring tears to your eyes as you acknowledge the importance of family, the joy of experiencing life with a loved one.

One last note: What a tremendously moving and inspiring video! It greatly reminds us to celebrate life with the people whom we love daily, accepting and embracing their imperfections. It is with this acceptance and love that makes a whole of difference.
Don’t wait for a funeral to tell your loved ones how much you love them. Hug them today and enjoy each moment. Celebrate life!
