Gifts: Dolls and Pets from Dad

Daisy’s dad passed away a long time ago in a plane crash. He was a pilot and traveled a lot.   One day, I sat down and asked her some questions about stuff toys which lead to other stuff and ended up with memories about her dad.

Michelle: Did you ever have a stuff toy that you couldn’t part with?

Daisy: Hmmmm…I had several teddy bears and dolls but there was one particular doll that became my favorite

Michelle: What was her name?

Daisy: Hahaha I can’t remember but I believe there were moments when I’d carry her to sleep I’d lovingly address her as “baby” before I sing her a lullaby.

Michelle: Hahahah okay, that’s sweet.

Daisy: I was amazed at the fact that she could cry and laugh because she was equipped withgifts-dolls-pets-abundance this mini 45 record located at her back beside the battery pack. One side played baby giggles and the other side played baby cries.

Michelle: It didn’t scare you?

Daisy: No! I was amazed at its capabilities. It opened and closed its eyes too. It was a state of the art doll at that time and I was the only one who had that kind in school, at least for awhile. My dad gave it to me during one of his visits back home after spending months working in Indonesia.

Michelle:  So that made you feel special.

Daisy: Oh yes, definitely! Giving gifts was his love language. It was an assurance that he loved me.gifts-dolls-pets-abundance

Michelle: I see.

Daisy: Well, just like most of men, he was not one to really expressed his love verbally. Most of the time he conveyed his love for us by bringing home gifts of clothes, toys, jewelry, exotic food, drinks and even exotic animals. He brought home a porcupine, parakeet, doves, monkeys of different varieties and the like.

Michelle: Aaaah, your home must have felt like a zoo! :-)

Daisy: Oh, did I mention we had pet goats too? :-) With 9 of us children and those animals — yes you could say it was like a zoo. Hmmmm… a zoo of love (toink) LOL (laughing out loud)

This was one of Daisy’s fond memory of her dad.  What are your fond memories of your dad?

Remember and be grateful.  Life is full of loving abundance.

  1. I love your story on dolls and pets! It brings back so many joyful memories! I still have my Ginny doll…wait a minute, I’ll go get her (WoW, she looks quite good for her age)…I got her for Christmas when I was in the first grade and I bravely stood and did a show and tell. She is still in her original outfit, sleeves all torn to shred revealing her beautiful arms!

I also grew up with beagles that my father raised and every stray cat in town that my sister and I brought home.

Dolls and pets are a child’s delight! Thanks for sharing your story! ~Dottie~
