Like most people, I used the word “appreciation” as another way of expressing gratitude without actually thinking much of the difference until I came across the teachings of Abraham Hicks on the subject matter.
The main difference being that in gratitude, one is thankful about a pleasant condition while in appreciation, one increases the value of any condition. It was an “Aha” moment for me. I began to put into practice what I got from the idea and discovered how it helped me easily get out of a rotten feeling into a more “appreciative” state.
I soon found myself including the concept in my talks and saw how the simple process of defining the terms helped participants, change their viewpoint on their respective “unpleasant conditions”.
Developing the Valued Added Technique (VAT) with Appreciation
Appreciation increases the value of what is, as is and thus, removes the element of non acceptance or resistance and then doubles the value of that which you are grateful about. This being the case, “unpleasant” conditions actually become abundant blessings. To further illustrate this phenomenon, here are sample scenarios:
Scenario 1
Current Unpleasant Condition:
“With the oil prices going up, I don’t know how I’m going to stretch my money to cover my family’s needs”
Applied VAT:
“I appreciate the fact, that I still have money to work on. I appreciate my ability to use my mind in figuring out what I can do. I appreciate the information I am able to access and analyze so that I can make decisions. I appreciate the presence of choices. I appreciate my body’s ability to cope with the stressful situation. I appreciate the way my family understands our predicament and is willing to work with me on this. I appreciate my relationship with God for it helps build my faith and allows me to take refuge in His love in moments such as this. I appreciate His guidance. I appreciate the calm I feel when I am in His presence and the reassurance He gives me. I appreciate this moment for it allows me to see what is most valuable to me. I appreciate this time that I am led to pray for others particularly those who live in countries that are in turmoil and are in far worse conditions. I appreciate this moment when I feel so blessed under His care. I appreciate this blessing and trust that all is well and my prayers for guidance and provision are being answered.
Scenario 2
Current Grateful Condition with Applied VAT:
I am thankful for the work I have and appreciate the opportunity it brings me. I am thankful for the benefits that the company offers me and appreciate how it helps me provide for my family’s needs. I am thankful for the various training I get from the company and appreciate the added knowledge and skills I posses. I am thankful that God reveals to me His presence through the people I work/serve and appreciate that I can carry out my personal mission through my profession.
Appreciation magnifies the positive energy and can only invite in more positive experiences in one’s life. Here’s a little video we made to in our Love Yourself for Goodness Sake Campaign, high-lighting Appreciation.
APPRECIATION MONTH
We thought it would be good to declare the month of March as the “Loving Abundance Appreciation Month”. What happens in this Appreciation Month? All we do is consciously increase the value of anyone, anything, and everything during this month. We invite everyone to join us and use VAT to express appreciation to God, family, friends, co-workers, management, acquaintances, online friends, coaches, mentors, teachers, guides, and most especially to those whom you may have had a “cold war” with and the like.
Let’s take the time to Appreciate and witness how loving abundance flow freely into your life.
