Am I Being Loving Enough?

Posted by Loving Abundance On January - 12 - 2010

Am-I-Being-Loving?We don’t know about you but sometimes we acknowledge that we ask this question many times throughout our lives… “Am I Being Loving Enough?”  How do you express your love?  Will it really be enough?  Is there such a thing as enough loving?  Should love be counted or not?  Well, here is one chat that we had about this topic.  Feel free to add your thoughts in the comment box below.

Daisy: How was dinner?

Michelle: Fine. I was arranging with mom our itinerary tomorrow.

Daisy: And…

Michelle: I am taking the time off from work to accompany her to her doctor’s appointment.

Daisy: Hahaha great!

Michelle: I hope she appreciates it that I offered this time to be with her. Is that being loving enough?

Daisy: Of course! It is being loving. Going beyond yourself is being loving. To clarify, going beyond your own preferences is being loving.

Michelle: It’s a paradox actually. I see myself going beyond myself and yet I am actually being myself now too. I mean, I am doing things with less effort since I don’t feel forced. Am I making sense?

Daisy:Hahaha yeah… I guess it’s a matter of knowing why you are doing it. Since you want to be more loving, you begin to express it in their love language.

Michelle: Ahhh, the willingness comes into the picture then huh? Being willing to express it through their love language, that is beyond that of our own.

Daisy:Exactly! And that is what going beyond yourself means, going beyond your preferences.

Michelle: Going beyond your comfort zone too! I see myself doing that and I am more comfortable doing it.

Daisy: I guess your spirit is more resolved to allow yourself to be God’s precious one.

Michelle: Yes, a huge chunk of that goes into that concept. I feel that is the way for me to fly. To allow myself to be God’s precious one.

Daisy:Alleluia!!!

Michelle: And the heavens rejoiced!!!

Daisy: And dance..and jump..and shout!!!

Michelle: Hahahaha you know, a thought popped into my mind, every time we say yes to life, to love…the heavens rejoice and dance and jump and shout…yes! And simply celebrate!

Daisy:Hahaha yep! Good lyrics too. Now to put some music into it.

Michelle: Boom boom boom. :)

Daisy: Tsaka tsaka boom! Yeah! :)

    Hi Michelle,

I think there’s some science to that, when you say yes to love (and life), you attract so much positive energy and give off perhaps even more! :)

I have a question for you: Do you think loving yourself first is essential in being loving to others? I read Pema Chodron and this is one of the things I always get from her. Also, what do you think of “I cannot give love if I don’t have it”?

Thanks again for a wonderful peek into your and Daisy’s interesting conversations. This is Ji Dao (Dave). My Facebook got hacked and it’s been almost a week that I don’t have access to my account. My login email was changed so I cannot reset password. What I’ve been trying to do is to have Facebook delete my profile so I and close friends are reporting the profile as hacked, but until now it is still active and someone else has control over it. And oh, I’m also trying to send “loving thoughts” to whoever did that to me :)

I mentioned that because I might not be re-joining Facebook. So I shall have more time for beautiful blogs like yours. :) I am wondering if it is possible to IM with you as well… :)

Thank you Michelle! May peace be with you. Amituofo!

Hi Ji Dao, saying yes to love and life does attract positive energy and thus bring about more good things in our lives. I agree with this wholeheartedly. As to your questions, yes, I believe that it is important to love oneself to love others more. Everything comes from within us. We cannot give what we do not have. The more we nourish ourselves, the better we are in giving…in a deeper way.

Glad you liked our conversations. We actually have many wonderful and beautiful conversations..too many to put here. But some will follow soon…watch out for it! Hahahaha Sorry to hear about your facebook account…it would be nice to have people read the things we write here so you are more than welcome to come back often. Peace be with you too. Amituofo!

    I am curious..what does metta mean? :)

  3. Ji Dao says:

Metta is Pali term for a wonderful philosophy of universal loving-kindness! It’s what I am cultivating every day. :) What you’re doing here is metta. :)

For more info on the concept of metta, here’s a good resource: http://www.accesstoinsight.org/lib/authors/buddharakkhita/wheel365.html

Thank you for enlightening me on that one :) I will follow the link you have posted. Many thanks!
