Moving from mind-set of Scarcity into the mind-set of Abundance is one of the more challenging things to accomplish. Our old patterns usually become the obstacles to recognizing the abundance that surround us. When you find yourself struggling with an idea or feel your old patterns reclaiming its place, Mind Teasers could be just the right game to play.
Pointers:
It is important that you first decide to be OPEN about all the things that you need to do in the game. Choose to enjoy the whole process and follow instructions carefully. Be OPEN as well to whatever you may discover along the way and however you may react or respond to the situation that can occur. Try not to second guess the exercise but simply enjoy the purity of the discovery.
This game can be done alone or with a partner or a small group. There is no time limit to this game. However, if you are doing this with a group you may ask one person to facilitate the game and set a time limit if you wish.
Mechanics:
1. Select any object you find in the room that gets your interest at the very moment you play the game. Give at least a minute or two to choose.
2. Once you have chosen an object get it from wherever it is and put it in front of you. Look at the object and see it as it is – an object. Avoid calling it by its appropriate name or label. Let your sense of sight communicate with you.
3. Start exploring the object using your sense of sight. Look at it through your eyes not your mind. Keep the mind at a distance because it has a tendency to describe it in words and puts judgments on the matter thereby preventing your senses from doing what it can do on its own. Trust the ability of your sense of sight. Your eyes know what it sees. Let your eyes answer the following sensorial questions:
- What do your eyes see? Where in your eyes do you see what?
- How your eyes are moving when it sees what?
- How are your eyes responding to a particular part of the object that it is seeing? What part of the object can you see from where you are?
Enjoy what your eyes are seeing and doing. Stay in the present moment. Take your time. Discover the many things your eyes can see in the object. When your eyes have been satisfied or have seen all it can see then move to the next one.
4. Explore the object using your sense of touch. Use your fingers first. Let your fingers feel the object not your mind. Again let the mind stay away or tease it. Let your fingers speak to you instead. Answer the following sensorial questions with your sense of touch:
- What are your fingers feeling in what part of the object?
- Where in your fingers do you feel what? How are your fingers responding to what part of the object?
- Try touching the object with your palms. How are your palms responding to it?
- Where in your palm do you feel what? How are your palms reacting to what part of the object?
You may then use other parts of your body to touch the object like the back of your hands, your elbow, maybe your cheeks, parts of your face etc. Notice how that part of your body is responding and be aware. Be involved and enjoy the exploration. Let your sense of touch enjoy the game of discovery. When your sense of touch has had its fill in feeling, you may move to the next sense.
5. Use your sense of hearing and listen to the different sounds the object can make. Shake it and check if you can hear certain sounds that come out from it. Notice how your ear responds. Tap your finger on a part. Then try tapping another part. Answer the following sensorial question:
- What different sounds can the object produce?
- Where in your ears did you hear the sound?
- How did your ears respond to a particular sound?
- How far is the sound away from you?
- Try to use another object to tap it. Is there a difference?
- Where in your ear did you hear a difference?
Experiment all parts with different types of objects to tap it. When satisfied move to the sense of smell.
6. Explore with your sense of smell and let your nose answer not your mind. Notice how your nose responds to a part of the object. Explore every part and take note of where your nose smells what and how it responds. Blow your breath on it. Is there a different scent?
- Where in your nose do you smell the difference?
- What different scents are coming from what part of the object?
- How far can you smell the object?
- How is your nose responding to every given scent?
Again enjoy the exploration and stay involved. When satisfied move to the last one.
7. Let your sense of taste explore the object. Don’t let your mind stop you from using your tongue to relate to the object. Take note of how your tongue responds to what part of the object. Explore every part and check where in your tongue you taste what. Use the other parts of your mouth to taste the object like the lips, the gum and the teeth. Ask the sensorial questions:
- What different tastes did my tongue get from what part of the object?
- Where in my tongue did I taste what? How did my tongue react to the taste?
- How did my lips respond to the taste of the object?
- What did my teeth or gums feel when it tasted the object? Have fun as you do this activity.
Dare to experiment. After all parts have been explored move on to the next phase of the process.
8. Put back the object in front of you. You have teased your mind enough. Now allow your mind to come into play. Take time to do this and have fun in the discovery. Be involved and enjoy the moment. Get a pen and paper and allow your mind to answer the following questions:
- What do you see in the object?
- What was the striking thing about the object that made you choose it?
- After exploring the object what qualities or characteristics did you discover about it that struck you the most?
- How do you feel about the object now?
List down all the other ways the object can be utilized aside from its basic function. Have fun with the game and list down as many was you can use the object. E.g. a coffee cup:
- Rice mold
- Making perfect circles
- Knife sharpener
- Improvised musical instrument
- Tablet crusher
- Decorative piece etc..
If you are doing this with a group, you may proceed by sharing with the group your realizations, your reflections, your opinions, and your insights. There is no wrong or write answer. All answers are valid for they are the truth with which everyone is coming from. The sharing is to be appreciated for it reveals a journey taken through this game.
9. Congratulate yourself for accomplishing this Mind Teasers Game. You may do this again with different objects especially during times when you feel you need to get out of the box.
The whole process of Mind Teasers allows you to live in the present moment without judging things based on pre conceived ideas, prior knowledge, biases or preferences. The moment you allow your senses to come into play your mind actually receives more information than what it thought it had. With the help of your senses you were able to find more elements that make up a certain object. You uncovered its given qualities or characteristics that allowed you to appreciate it and connect with it. The experience has added value to the object. The abundance and prosperity of an object is thus, revealed by this simple game.
You can imagine, therefore, the many treasures you can discover in life especially if you extend your exploration, figuratively this time, to a person, or a group of people or a new idea or a new habit or even a new mindset. A prosperous adventure can easily take place.
Play this Mind Teasers Game at anytime you wish to discover more treasures in your present life. There is an amazing amount of loving abundance moving around us everyday.

While this issue can be very tough for most people, my opinion is that there has to be a middle or common ground that we all can find. I do appreciate that you’ve added relevant and rational commentary here though. Very much thanks to you!
This sounds like a fun way to discover the abundance, or gratitude of it in our everyday lives. I’m going to try some tomorrow (it’s late now).
Thanks for everything you do to help us!
Love Shirley
Great mind exercise!
Most of the time, we tend to neglect the beauty of things around us. We constructed our perception of things when we were introduced to it which may go all the way back when we were little.
Then and now are different. This exercise can lead us to new discoveries – that our automatic response to an object or thing may not be as lively as how we perceive it in the now.
I falling in love with your mind…and it’s games.
